Is It Time to Clean Out the Mess?

As a mother of three, often times, my kids would junky my car up! Somewhere along the line, I set a boundary and said "no more!" I invested in a car wash membership, and we started going...often! That's because, I noticed that whenever my car was a mess, it usually was a good indicator, that my life was, as well.

Have you ever felt like the mess around you, mirrored the mess within you? Much like that junky car, our bodies can began to collect unwanted pounds, unwanted habits, or even unwanted health conditions that if we would be honest, we should have dealt with long ago. The bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:19 that our bodies is the Lord's temple. If his Spirit dwells in us, we ought to  take care of this temple of God's.

Sister in Christ, it's time to stop complaining and start, yes just start and stick with it. Today I don't come to you as an expert, or some health guru, but as a mom of three, who has made a lot of mistakes, in fact i once got a little too ambitious about healthy eating, bought all kinds of healthy foods, only for it to spoil as I bought fast food. I tried a lot of things that yeilded no results. Eventually, I refused to settle for wanting but not having. Not having energy, not having the shape that I want, not having the health that I need. I decided that with God, I'm going to achieve my goals. Today I'm going to share the three steps that worked for me. Yes, just three because my life requires simple and I'm sure you're not dying for difficult either.

Step 1, PUT GOOD IN, TO GET GOOD OUT. Our eating accounts for 80% of our overall health. This is not just my opinion. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), up to 80% of all cases of heart disease, stroke, and Type 2 diabetes could be prevented by adopting healthy eating habits, staying physically active, and avoiding tobacco. You might be thinking, "see you had me until you start messing with my food". Ha ha. Eating healthy does not mean bland and boring. It's not about restricting, but simply about making better choices. Ask God for wisdom and self-control as you make healthier choices. This step leads us right into step 2 because now that you want to do better, what is better, right?

Step 2, REMOVE, BUT REPLACE. Just like God replaces our old ways with new life, we replace unhealthy habits with healthy ones. You show me a person who throws out all the junky stuff, but fail to replace it with the right foods, and I'll show you a person who will be shopping for the junky stuff again. If you're in agreement that your food habits can use some tweaking, then welcome to the club. First step is to educate yourself on what healthy eating works for you and your lifestyle. I've seen some diets and I'm like, no. I would be miserable. Remember, it's mot a diet, but a lifestyle change and it's about making healthy choices. I suggest going on YouTube and finding a someone that has a similar lifestyle as you and mimic some meals and then look at new recipes. You'll be surprised at what foods you love, but they were never apart of your diet.

Step 3, GET MOVING. Lastly, yes, if you don't move it,  you won't lose it. This doesn't mean sweating it out in the gym for hours. No matter what level you're on, commit to at least walking three days a week. Maybe that's during your lunch break,  or if you're like me, I have to get up at the crack of dawn in order to get my workout in. Yes, it does suck some days, but when I finish, I never regret it. In fact I feel a sense of self respect that I took time to prioritize my health. It encourages me to seize the rest of the day when I start it off that way. Every walk can become a prayer walk. Every workout can become an act of gratitude for the body God has given you.

Listen, sis this isn't about becoming skinny. It's about becoming healthy enough to live out the purpose God has placed on your life. We can't pour from an empty cup. The stronger and healthier we become, the more energy we have to love our families, serve others, and glorify God. So today, don't wait until Monday. Start with one healthy choice. God will meet you in your consistency. It's time to "clean out that messy car.

Sis this journey toward better health is just one part of becoming whole. At Abide & Bloom: The Evidence, we’re creating space for women to examine every area of their lives, reconnect with God, and recognize the fruit produced through healing, obedience, and consistency.

Join us September 25–26, 2026, for two transformative days of honest conversation, worship, connection, and growth. It’s time to stop hiding your progress and let them see the evidence.

The evidence has been there all along, you’re just now learning how to recognize it.
