LOVE IN ACTION

In Ruth 1:16 & 18, Ruth says to Naomi “ Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from you. For wherever you go, I will GO, and wherever you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God". When Naomi saw that she was determined to go with her, she said no more to her.

As much as Naomi tried to discourage Ruth from following her, Ruth’s heart was set on going to new territory with a woman who was dear to her. Because of her LOVE for her mother-in-law, she chose not to turn back to a familiar place; a place of grief and the pain of the memories of what once was. Unsure of what was ahead, Naomi surrendered her will and welcomed Ruth on the journey. On said journey, Naomi and Ruth couldn't fathom what was about to take place.

Without the guidance and wisdom of Naomi, Ruth would not have had the opportunity to glean in the grain fields. She would not have had the opportunity to encounter Boaz, her future husband. Ruth would not have had the chance to marry Boaz, and conceive a son. Not only did Ruth experience restored love, joy and legacy, Naomi also shared in the blessing of restoration.

Are you holding on to what once was and being fearful of what could be? Or have you decided to move forward in obedience and love? Don’t let your lack of obedience keep you or whomever is tied to your obedience from receiving the blessing.

Well, you may ask “ What’s love got to do with it?” (In my Tina Turner voice). The answer is simple, love is a choice, not just a fickle feeling that comes and goes in the midst of favorable or unfavorable circumstances.

Ruth’s love was built on a choice. She chose to let go of a place that no longer served her present or future. She chose to GO in love, not knowing that God had a greater plan in the days, months, or years ahead.

Sis, in 2025, will you go in love? Will you allow God to lead, rescue, shift you out of that desolate, familiar place and into godly purpose? Will you choose to love God and trust his timing? Will you release the hurt, bitterness, and unforgiveness, and let God teach you what love really is. All he needs is your YES.

In conclusion, Ruth could have given up, turned back to Moab, and remained in the what-ifs. Bitterness, pain and sorrow could have been her portion, but God!

So, go my sister, in the manner of 1 Corinthians 13: 7 “ Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance.”
