Pull Me Closer

That breath you have been holding?
You can let it go when you run to the arms of The Father.
Deuteronomy 33:27 đ The eternal God is your dwelling place,
and underneath are the everlasting arms. And He thrust out the enemy before you and said, âDestroy.â
This was part of a blessing spoken by Moses over Israel. He IS our dwelling place, our City of Refuge & our strong tower! đđ˝
There was a season of my life that everything seemed to be falling apart, yet I felt the closeness of the Lord at every turn. â¤ď¸ During that season birds became precious to me. I bought ceramic ones, pictures of them and friends gave them to me as gifts. To this day they are around our home as reminders. â¤ď¸

I would sit on our back porch and watch them on the telephone pole or in our feeder and some mornings I would sit still enough for them to come close and rest on a nearby chair.
I would ponder as they gathered and ate seeds from wherever they found them and didnât complain when they built a nest in the awning of that same back porch. They never seemed stressed or worried about where their next meal was coming from, even when I forgot to fill the feeder. đ
As a Fort Pierce, Florida native, I am accustomed to hearing birds of all kinds day & night. During an Ohio winter, I discovered the silence is deafening when most fly south for the winter. But that first chirp đ¤ of spring always does something for my soul! đđ˝ I long for it and listen intently as winter draws to a closeâŚwith child like anticipationâŚ.when I finally hear it I whisper âWelcome Homeâ.
It feels like I have been holding my breath and finally get to exhale! Now you can understand why sitting on my back porch early in the morning would have brought me great comfort during the season I am sharing. God speaks to me in everyday thingsâŚseldom does He communicate to me what some call "super-naturally". No, not me. He knows His children intimately. Some of usâŚHe has to move mountains đď¸..others all He has to do is give us âthe lookâ lol đ
Seriously though, I donât know if itâs because Iâm simple or if itâs just how I learn but everyday life is how He chooses most often to teach me. The back porch became my sanctuary and my backyard became His classroom. I would read my Bible, drink coffee and watch my little bird family. All while listening for His voice or thought provoking as I took it all in.

I began to study: Psalm 91:4
He will cover you with His feathers and under His wings you will find refuge.
I donât know about you, but I am a visual learner. I tried to imagine the Lord covering me with His wings. Pretty hard to imagine from my perspectiveâŚ.until I remembered the birds. đŚ
You see, I knew when mama bird was away from the nest because the shrill cheeps of her babies would pierce through the morning air. But when she returned, the nest was close enough that I could hear the shrill cheep change to a soft âwimperâ and then I could tell they would settle.
Mama only left long enough to find food. To those babies it must have felt like they were abandoned but I am a witness, she always came back. â¤ď¸ Can we see ourselves in this scenario as well? I know I can! I was feeling closer to the Lord than ever but I could feel my enemy raging around meâŚthreatening me every day that all that had fallen apart would never come back together.
Have you ever believed a lie?
I have too and itâs not a good feelingâŚit festers and irritates and causes havoc wherever it gains access!! Psalm 91:3 SURELY HE shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence
The lie of the enemy is a snare and the Lord is faithful to deliver His children! One morning, when this season was drawing to a close I began to google: âmama bird with young covered by wingsâ I had to look closely to find the hidden birdsâŚand it hit me!!!
When we CRY OUT or run to the LordâŚwe find refuge under His wings and just like these images we are HIDDEN in Him!!! When I am hidden in Him, I can exhale, I can rest, I am SAFE from all alarm!!!! I am not easily accessible by the enemy ! đđ˝ Thereâs no safer place to beâŚthan close to HimâŚ
One more thingâŚ. when those baby birds are that closeâŚdo you think they can hear mamaâs heart? I do too!!! đđ˝â¤ď¸đđ˝
Psalm 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and are SAFE!
The words of this song are swimming in my heart as I write this morning: "Pull me a little closer,
Take me a little deeper, I wanna know Your heart"⌠đś
I donât know if this is just for me as I remember the mighty acts of the Lord or if someone really needs this today, but let me just encourage youâŚno matter how close you think you areâŚ.allow Him to pull you closer.
