The Prerequisite...

I'm standing at the stove in our open concept family room/kitchen area. As I was sautéing my red, yellow, and green peppers , I hear my son say, "Go upstairs Bens, I'll bring your food upstairs." We have two dogs, Benny, a 3 year old black and tan coonhound and Dexter, an almost 2 year old Blue Nose Pit-bull. They are both super sweet boys! They like to play together, but their food bowls HAVE to be separate. Dexter eats downstairs and Bennys food is upstairs, that is how it has always been.

As my younger son was preparing Dexters' bowls, he was anxiously awaiting his meal! His tail was just a going! Benny, who was also hungry and is very territorial was also waiting, salivating at Dexter's food. His head was cocked to the left side and he looking a bit confused, as if this wasn't our daily routine.

My son finally puts Dexters' food and water down and Dex makes a mad dash to his bowl. All you hear is crunching! I watched as my son told Benny again to go upstairs so he could eat. My son then motions upstairs Benny and invites him up in his most loving and caring tone "Come on Bens, I have yours up here." Still nothing. Benny wanted to bully Dexter and eat his food, but he knows better! He finally went upstairs after realizing there was nothing downstairs for him.

As I'm cooking and watching this unfold, it hit me like a ton of bricks! This is how we are with God. There are some blessings we have not yet seen because we are not in position. We see God's hand in everyone else's lives and we're wondering "when will it be my turn" or "how long will it take for me?" And God is saying, just go upstairs, I have yours waiting for you. Now "upstairs" is figurative here. But think back, what has God instructed you to do that you have not done? Where did tell you to go? What He has for you is already prepared, you're just not in position to receive it.

Your obedience is a prerequisite to what He has for you. Once you get into the will of God, there is no thing that He will withhold from you. The key to "it" is you have to be obedient. God instructed Abram to go to a land that He'd show him Genesis 12:1. Abram did, no questions asked. Because of his obedience, the Lord came to him and promised the land to his offspring. As Abram walked in obedience, God continued to bless, not only him, but his children and their children. That's the type of hope and trust we should have in the Lord. When He says move...Go!
