Crowned Without Calling 👑

Hey Queen! Not my typical intro, I know! Just keep reading...

ree

In 1 Kings 1, we meet Adonijah, the son of King David who decided he was ready to be king...without God’s appointment or his father’s blessing. Adonijah didn’t wait for divine timing. Instead, he crowned himself. Surrounding his rebellion with a circle of people who hyped him up instead of holding him accountable. He threw his own coronation feast, invited some of his brothers, the king’s officials, and even priests who would validate his pride. But notice who he didn’t invite: Solomon, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, those closest to King David and to God’s plan. Adonijah’s omission was intentional. He knew that the ones who truly heard from God wouldn’t approve of his self-promotion. So, he gathered the ones who would cheer him on, even if it meant they were cheering him toward destruction. He wanted supporters, not truth-tellers.He wanted agreement, not accountability. He wanted a crown, not calling.

Adonijah’s story is a sobering reminder that not everyone who supports you is for you. Some people will encourage your ambition, but not your alignment. They’ll clap for your success, but not your submission. Your community has the power to either crown your character or corrupt it.

Sis, ask yourself:

  • Are the people around me pushing me closer to God’s purpose or closer to my own pride?

  • Do my friends celebrate when I wait on God, or only when I make moves that make me look powerful?

  • Who’s missing from my table because their truth makes me uncomfortable?

Sometimes, the ones we leave off the invitation list are the very voices we need to hear most. Just like Adonijah, we can all be tempted to force what we think we deserve instead of waiting for what God has promised. Sis hear me clearly, EVERY time we try to crown ourselves, we risk building a kingdom that God never blessed!

When Solomon was anointed king by David’s command, it wasn’t because he fought for the throne, it was because he was called to it. God’s order always prevails over human ambition.

So before you let your circle hand you a crown, pause and pray:

“Lord, surround me with voices that correct me before they celebrate me.Remove every relationship that feeds my ego more than my spirit.”

Because when the wrong people support the wrong version of you, they’ll lead you into battles God never told you to fight.

Adonijah's story isn’t just a Bible story, it’s a mirror. It asks us to examine our motives, our timing, and our tribe. Sis, be careful who crowns you, be careful who you call “friend.”and finally, and most importantly, let God do the appointing, because promotion without purpose is just pride in disguise.

I say all that to say, Sis, who crowned you?
