Discipline Looks Good on You

You don’t have to begin well… you just have to begin.

Happy New Year, Sis!

We made it!!! Another year covered by God’s mercy. Another fresh start wrapped in His grace. And this year, We’re committed to Grow, Girl and Letting them see our progress. Sis, growth does not happen accidentally, it requires discipline...and yes, discipline is closely tied to self-control, one of the fruits of the Spirit. Discipline is not punishment; it is structure that protects the future God is calling you into.

January is not about perfection. It is about resetting.

Reset your mind. Reset your habits. Reset your thinking patterns. RESET YOUR LIFE!

Use the tools you have right now to become the woman God has already envisioned. The past is the past, it cannot be erased, but it can be redeemed and corrected. Your life is living proof of God’s goodness. The question is: how are you stewarding that testimony? Are you magnifying Him with your gifts, or burying what He entrusted to you? Are you multiplying what’s in your hands, or playing small out of fear, comfort, or inconsistency?

Many of us wait for motivation to strike. Discipline does not work that way. Discipline is built through daily, intentional choices...even when you do not feel like it. Discipline Is Built, Not Discovered.

Here’s how to build discipline and self-control in a way that’s realistic and sustainable:

1. Start Small (Consistency Over Intensity)

Discipline grows when you keep promises to yourself, especially the small ones.If you want to pray more, start with 5 minutes. If you want to journal, write one paragraph. If you want to work out, walk for 10 minutes. Small obedience compounds.

2. Attach Discipline to a “Why”

Self-control sticks when it’s connected to purpose. You’re not waking up early just to wake up early, you’re doing it to become sharper, healthier, more present, more obedient. Ask yourself: Who benefits when I become disciplined?

3. Create Systems, Not Just Goals

Goals inspire; systems sustain. Instead of “I want to read my Bible more, decide when, where, and how. (I.E. “Every morning at 7:00 AM, I read one chapter with my coffee.” ) Discipline thrives in structure.

4. Remove What Weakens Your Self-Control ⬅️ (THIS IS THE ONE!)

Sometimes the most spiritual move is practical. If scrolling derails your focus, set app limits. If late nights ruin your mornings, protect your bedtime. Self-control is not just saying “yes” to God, it’s also saying “no” to distractions.

5. Invite God Into the Process...First

Before you plan, pray. Before you write goals, seek God’s direction. It's that simple!

“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” — Proverbs 19:21

If God is not in it, He will not bless it and Sis, that is not failure, that is redirection. God should never be an afterthought. Every plan, every pivot, every dream belongs on the altar.

Discipline does not mean you will have a perfect life, it just means you will have a submitted one.

Priscilla Shirer is known for her powerful teachings and biblical depth. What many don’t see is her disciplined commitment to studying Scripture daily, long before platforms and stages existed. Her authority flows from her consistency,

Joyce Meyer often speaks openly about overcoming a painful past. Her transformation came through years of disciplined thinking: learning to control her mind, her words, and her reactions. Self-control changed her life long before it changed her ministry. Neither of these women started perfectly. They started faithfully.

Sis, set yourself up for the year: This is the season to build your framework.

  1. Write out quarterly goals

  2. Break them into monthly goals

  3. Then into weekly action steps

But do not write first...pray first. Ask God what He wants to grow, stretch, prune, and produce in you this year.

Remember: discipline is not about control, it’s about alignment with God’s will, your calling and with the woman you are becoming.

You don’t have to begin well Sis, you just have to begin!

And when you do, stay disciplined enough to keep going.

Pray this prayer with me:

Heavenly Father, I come before You humbly, first thanking You for the gift of another year. Thank You for Your mercy, Your grace, and all that You have already done in my life. I am grateful for how far You have brought me, and I am expectant for all that You have prepared ahead.

Abba Father, I come to You as Your daughter, asking that You guide me and order my steps. I willingly submit my will to Yours and I declare that You will have Your way in my life. Align my desires with Your purpose, and help me to walk in obedience even when it requires stretching, pruning, or growth.

Father God, I ask for the wisdom to carry out Your plans, the knowledge to execute them effectively, and the understanding to complete the race You have set before me. Strengthen me as I learn to walk in discipline and self-control. Teach me strategies that are specific to me, so that I may become the WHOLE WOMAN You created me to be.

Lord, I acknowledge that I cannot go a single moment without You. Lead me, guide me, and keep me sensitive to Your voice. Let this year, 2026, be marked by uncommon favor, divine alignment, and doors that only You can open. Grant me the discipline and self-control necessary to steward my assignment well, so that I do not mishandle what You have entrusted to me. I desire to honor You in every area of my life. I trust You completely.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
