Plug Back Into the Source: Embracing a Fresh Start with Go!

I am always in awe of how the Lord gives me new revelations. I feel led to share one of my most recent experiences, so bear with me as I take you on one of my revelation journeys.

As an MBA student, mother, wife, and entrepreneur, I am often very busy—always on the go! Recently, I was in the middle of completing some work on my phone. I was so wrapped up in my tasks that I didn’t notice my phone’s battery was low—or perhaps I ignored the warning. Either way, my phone died right in the midst of my work. I went to grab my portable charging box to plug in my phone so I could continue working. However, when I went to use the charging box, it was dead too. Normally, I rotate charging my phone and the charging box so that neither is ever dead at the same time, but in this case, I hadn’t done that. So, I plugged the charging box into the wall to recharge, and then connected my phone to the charging box so it could start charging as well.I paused. I looked at the line of devices connected to my wall—the source—and that’s when I felt the Lord speak to my spirit. He showed me that my life in this season looked much like the line of devices in front of me. I had become so busy with the daily hustle and bustle of life that I had stopped connecting directly to the Source—like I used to. Instead, I had been pulling from “middleman” sources, like my charging box (online sermons, podcasts, church services), which are themselves plugged into the Source. While those middleman sources are helpful and good, they are not the Source.

It hit me: if those middleman sources were to die out—if they stopped recording, posting, or went silent—I would be at risk of running out of power as well because I had allowed myself to rely on them instead of directly on God.

In that moment, I realized it was time for a “fresh start.” It was time to return to my prayer closet, to get back to reading the Word for myself. James 4:8 says, “Draw close to God, and He will draw close to you.” This reminded me that often, when we think we are waiting on God, He is actually waiting on us. Many of the frustrations I had been carrying and the mental attacks I had been facing would have been far less impactful if I had remembered that I could lay those burdens down at my Father’s feet. I would have been reminded by Abba that even being busy can be a distraction that pulls us away from Him.

God wants us to seek Him, commune with Him, and not confuse the tools He uses to help us on our faith walk as replacements for time in His presence. There was a time when I stayed glued to my prayer closet. A sermon wasn’t enough. A podcast wasn’t sufficient. Even my worship music didn’t satisfy. I needed Him! The visual of the dead charging box, pulling in just enough energy from the Source to feed a dead phone, struck a deep chord in me. My autopilot, busy life had left me dependent on a source for strength in my walk that needed a source itself.

Just like my phone, I had ignored the warning signs that I was running on empty. But God, in His loving kindness, used a very simple visual to remind me that I needed a fresh start. I needed Him. I encourage you today: GO and spend time with the Father. Let God be the source of your strength. Remember that sometimes, we must take off the hat of Martha and sit at the feet of Jesus, like Mary did in Luke 10:38-42.

Your fresh start awaits you!
